Holy Communion - Eucharist
Eucharist means ‘thanksgiving’. Christ’s body and blood are offered and received in the form of bread and wine. Christ, at the Last Supper, broke bread and gave it to his disciples to eat. Now the priest, through the words of consecration, blesses and gives Holy Communion during a Mass, reminding followers that they are one with Christ. Food and drink nourishes our bodies ‒ Christ’s blood and body nourishes us spiritually.
All Sacraments Need Preparation
First Holy Communion preparation for both children and adults also incorporates the necessary preparation for a first Reconciliation.

St Francis
The Holy Communion programme usually runs from January – May and uses the programme “I want to make my home in you”. The programme for 2025 is already underway. For further information, please contact Sue Roche via the Parish Office:
First Holy Communion Programme 2026 - 2027 St Edwards & St Marks
For those families wishing to enrol their children in year 3 or above we have a threefold programme, as follows:
Step 1: ‘Come and See’ (John 1: 39-41)
For 6 weekends the candidate is required to attend weekend Masses with family members. At the beginning of November, a Commitment Ceremony will be held.
Step 2: ‘They sat at the feet of Jesus’ (Luke 10:38-42).
Saturday morning sessions, at 10:00am starting in November, are where the candidates will prepare along with their parents for First Reconciliation and Holy Communion.
The First Holy Communion Masses will be in May.
The introduction for parents and guardians will be on 16th September at 18:30 in St Edward’s Parish Centre. At this meeting, you will receive the ‘Commitment Card’ to be stamped as your child attends Masses. Further dates will be given at this meeting.
